Ukraine plans to hire US contractors to service its new F-16s
Lockheed Martin and RTX could rake in hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress Tuesday that Ukraine intends to hire Western contractors to help maintain its new fleet of donated F-16 fighter jets.
In addition to buying certain spare and repair parts, consumables, and accessories needed for the aircraft, Ukraine requires the assistance of Western experts to perform “minor modifications and maintenance support.”
Both Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and RTX Corporation (NYSE: RTX) are named principal contractors on the arms deal, which will be worth $266.4 million if approved by Congress. A third named principal contractor is the Belgian firm Sabena, which specializes in maintenance and modification of both civilian and military aircraft.
