Zambia buying helicopters from Textron Bell
Zambia's air force is growing.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress Monday that Zambia intends to purchase an unspecified number of Bell 412 Enhanced Performance Exportable Medium-Lift Transport Helicopters. A prior sale of four Bell 412 EPs was valued at $80 million. Mathematically speaking, therefore, this current sale is probably for five helicopters, and will grow Zambia’s Bell 412 fleet to 13 helicopters total.
In addition to the aircraft, this sale will involve the purchase of various radio communication and navigation systems, spare parts, and training services for both pilots and mechanics.
Textron (NYSE: TXT) is named principal contractor on the sale, which will be worth $100 million if approved by Congress.
